Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a permit?
- Not the licensing process of larger PV systems. The new framework requires a simple registration on the DEDDIE platform with wattage, model and type — we handle it for you. Final details are set by the ministerial decision.
- Can I install more than 800 W?
- No. The limit is 800 W grid output and 900 W installed capacity, with penalties for false declarations. The legal way to get more energy is adding a battery — or upgrading to a full rooftop system.
- Do I have power during an outage?
- The PV side disconnects automatically during outages (anti-islanding, protecting repair crews). Kits with a battery can power essential devices from the battery's independent output.
- I rent, or live in an apartment building — can I install?
- The mounts clamp onto the railing without drilling, and the whole system moves with you. For building façades, it's wise to check with your landlord or building management first.
- How fast does it pay back?
- With Athens sunshine and ~€0.24/kWh: about 3 years without a battery, 4–5 years with one — on a system that lasts over 10 years. Use the calculator above with your own numbers.
